Spring Afterschool Clubs and Activities

The Climbing Club with Mr. Miller & Ms. Kinzer on Wednesday from 3-5 PM

Climbing is an activity that promotes physical strength and flexibility. It also involves problem-solving, strategic thinking and collaboration with others. Most importantly, it is a lot of fun! The club meets at The Cliffs, a world-class climbing facility a half block away from ITHS. See Mr. Miller or Ms. Kinzer for details.

Since starting the club in January 2015, we have had around 200 students participate. Several have developed their skills to a point that they take part in competitions around the region and country. 

My Sister’s Keeper with Ms. Mack & Ms. Hanna on Thursday from 4-6 PM

Women have the ability to do phenomenal things. With the right mindset and the right resources, women have the ability to turn this world upside down. This club is dedicated to empowering young women through Social Emotional Development. Impacting, inspiring and empowering young women to be leaders of today and the change of tomorrow.

I.T.H.S Chess Club with Mr. Nelson Wednesday 4-6 PM

The I.T.H.S Chess Club is a student run teacher assisted club in which students play chess after school. Students will meet every Wednesday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the cafeteria. Players learn and practice different moves and tactics while socializing and enjoying a great game of chess with friends. The Chess Club is open to both inexperienced and experienced chess players—all are welcome!   Advisor: Mr. Nelson rnelson29@schools.nyc.gov 

The Fine Arts Club with Ms. Cho Tuesdays from 4-6 PM

Allow students to have the freedom to create what they want based on their own interests. Students will have the opportunity to explore and experiment with diverse mediums of art. Students will also have the opportunity to create collaborative artworks and murals that will be presented throughout the school.

The National Honor Society with J. Brown & Mr. Rollon Tuesday from 3-5 PM

The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921. Having NHS is extremely important to our school community. NHS students develop our character and leadership skills, participate in and develop volunteer projects that will help them give back to their community. 

The Entrepreneurs Club with Mr. Nelson Tuesday 4-5 PM

What is the Entrepreneurs Club? It’s a group that offers inspiration and support for any student who aspires to become an entrepreneur.  There are also opportunities to make friends, share business ideas, develop professional networks, and build bonds that can help you thrive in the real world. 

The Band Club with Mr. Elliot on Tuesday and Thursday 3-5 PM

After school opportunity for Music Majors to practice their instruments with individual instruction.  Students can explore other instruments, practice for NYSSMA and upcoming performances and work to create a strong culture of music and art at ITHS. See Mr. Elliot for details

 

The Graphic Design Club with Mr. Hadel on Wednesday 3-5 PM

The Graphic Design Club will be a place where students come to work on their personal designs, school design projects, to brain storm, to get help with design method and software, etc. This space will be safe for artists who want to doodle, dream, color and create. Possible outcomes could be posters, advertisements, illustrations, characters, animation. In addition, the club will be the office of the ITHS Design Studio, taking design projects from the community outside of school. Thanks to a grant organized by school, Designers working on those projects will be paid. See Mr. Hadel for details.

Cinematic Experience/ Film studies club with Mr. Chowdhury on Wednesday 4-6 PM

The Cinematic Experience/ Film studies is a club designed to have students emerge in the world of film- and what work goes behind in making a film. This club will consist of us analyzing films from different genres and cultures- from Hollywood films, Korean films to Bollywood films. Zen-Z still aligns with this club in many ways, it creates a safe space for students and allows our scholars to accumulate community service hours towards graduations by getting involved in school events and catering to our ITHS community. To our former Zen-Z club members, we will still practice meditation, and focus on bettering our mental health over the course of the year. Although academic rigor and practice is significant for graduation and college readiness, this club will allow students to take a break and focus on their mental health while also studying various films. Badminton / Double Dutch Club with Ms. Brudasca on Tuesday 3-5 PM

The Badminton and Double Dutch Club offers an inclusive opportunity for students of all skill levels to engage in these sports. All necessary equipment will be readily available for participants. Students will learn the basics skills and engage in physical activity, game like situations and tournament play in a fun and social environment.  See Ms. Brudasca for details. 

Weight Training Club with Mr. Reid on Tuesday & Thursday from 3-5 PM

This after school club will offer students the opportunity to focus on learning how to exercise and train with weights and resistance.  They will have the freedom to work out at their own pace in a safe, controlled and monitored setting.  It will also allow those looking to try more advanced workouts that they may not be able to do in their PE classes. The Gamers Club Mr. Vanderputten on Tuesday from 4-6 PM

Video Game club is social area for students interested in board games, card games, and video games to interact and play with one another in a competitive or casual setting. Join Mr. Vanderputten in the roleplaying game of Dungeons & Dragons and the world of sword and sorcery, where each player creates an adventurer and teams up with other adventurers. You and your friends tell a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and more. See Mr. Vanderputten for details. 

The Cri-cut Club with Ms. McMillan, on Monday 4-6 PM

The purpose of the Cri-cut club is to offer students an opportunity to learn how to make jewelry, Clothing Labels, birthday and Christmas cards etc, monograms for mugs, cups or tumbler, car decals, T-Shirt iron-on, gift tags, party decorations and more. We are looking to take our students to the next level of becoming a T-Shirt Designer, Card Designer, clothing label designer etc. See Ms. McMillan in room 305 for more information.

ENL Academy with Mr. Martinez Tuesday 3-5 PM

The ENL academy will help students prepare for the NYSESLAT in May. We will focus on four modalities: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The goal of this program is for students to improve their English proficiency on the NYSESLAT and eventually pass the examination. See Mr. Martinez for details

The Event Planning Club with Ms. Renza every other Tuesday from 4-5 PM

 The purpose of the event planning club is to collaborate with the ITHS community during events such as the Halloween, holiday, homecoming parties etc. This event will allow students to take the role of planning and creating wonderful events for the entire ITHS community. In the past few years, teachers were mostly in charge and involved in creating these events- now we can incorporate our very own students to be innovative and reimagine what these events can look like.
